Sous Chef – Fern, Bart & Taylor

East Croydon | Up to £42,000 per annum (including service charge) | Seasonal Fresh Food & Premium Dining

Fern is a stylish, premium restaurant centred around fresh, seasonal food, serving lunch, dinner, Saturday brunch, and our renowned Sunday roast seven days a week.

Part of Bart & Taylor Co., an award-winning collection of boutique bars and restaurants across London and the North, Fern delivers a refined yet relaxed dining experience built on creativity, quality, and genuine hospitality.

We're looking for a passionate, hands-on Sous Chef to support our Head Chef in leading the kitchen. This is an exciting opportunity for a talented chef who thrives in a fast-paced, fresh-food environment and is ready to take the next step in their career while helping shape one of Croydon's most exciting dining destinations.

Key Responsibilities

Support the Head Chef with the day-to-day management of the kitchen
Lead, motivate, and develop the kitchen team during service
Maintain consistently high standards of food quality, presentation, and execution
Assist with menu development using fresh, seasonal ingredients
Manage stock, ordering, and minimise wastage to maximise efficiency
Help control labour and food costs in line with company targets
Ensure the highest standards of food safety, hygiene, and kitchen organisation
Work closely with the Front of House and management teams to deliver an exceptional guest experience
Take responsibility for running the kitchen in the Head Chef's absence

What We're Looking For

Previous experience as a Sous Chef or a strong Junior Sous Chef ready to progress
A genuine passion for fresh, seasonal produce and quality cooking
A positive leader who motivates and develops those around them
Strong organisational skills with the ability to perform under pressure
Good commercial awareness, including stock control, food costs, and labour management
A calm, hands-on approach with excellent attention to detail
A desire to learn, grow, and build a long-term career within a successful hospitality group
