Job Overview

Job Overview

We are looking for an experienced Cook/Chef to join our team at Buddies Play Den. This role is primarily for Sundays, with shifts typically lasting between 7.5 and 10 hours depending on business needs.

While this is a Sunday-based position, there may occasionally be opportunities to swap shifts or pick up additional hours to cover holidays and staff absence, should this be of interest to the successful candidate.

Working in our busy family café, you will be responsible for preparing and serving food to a high standard, managing allergens safely, maintaining excellent food hygiene standards, and ensuring the kitchen operates efficiently during service. This is a hands-on role that requires previous kitchen experience and the ability to work confidently in a fast-paced environment.

The successful candidate will be organised, able to work efficiently under pressure, and confident managing multiple orders while maintaining a clean and safe kitchen.

Key Responsibilities Food Preparation & Service

Prepare and cook menu items to company standards.
Ensure food is presented consistently and served promptly.
Manage customer orders during busy service periods.
Liaise effectively with front-of-house staff regarding orders, special requests and dietary requirements.
Monitor stock levels during service and communicate shortages.

Allergen & Food Safety Management

Follow all allergen procedures and company policies.
Ensure food is prepared safely for customers with allergies and dietary requirements.
Prevent cross-contamination and maintain allergen awareness at all times.
Comply with all food hygiene, health and safety, and environmental health regulations.

Kitchen Organisation & Cleaning

Maintain a clean, safe and organised working environment.
Complete daily and weekly cleaning schedules.
Ensure equipment is cleaned and maintained correctly.
Follow opening, closing and kitchen hygiene procedures.

Stock Control & Ordering

Monitor stock levels and report shortages.
Assist with placing orders from suppliers when required.
Check deliveries and ensure stock is stored correctly.
Help minimise waste and maintain stock rotation procedures.

Skills & Experience RequiredEssential

Previous experience working in a kitchen, café, restaurant, pub, or similar catering environment.
Good understanding of food hygiene and food safety procedures.
Knowledge of allergen management and cross-contamination prevention.
Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment.
Strong organisational skills and attention to detail.
Reliable, punctual and able to work independently.

Desirable

Level 2 Food Hygiene Certificate.
Experience in a café or quick-service food environment.
Experience with stock ordering and supplier management.
