Job Summary

We are seeking a dedicated and reliable Bakery Assistant to join our Production Team. This role involves supporting the preparation, production, baking, and monitoring of a wide range of bakery products while maintaining the highest standards of quality, hygiene, and food safety.

As our bakery operates across multiple production lines, the successful candidate's day-to-day responsibilities will be tailored according to their skills, experience, and training. Full training will be provided, with opportunities to develop and work across different production areas as competency grows.

The ideal candidate will work collaboratively with colleagues to ensure the smooth operation of the bakery, support production targets, and contribute to a safe, efficient, and organised working environment.

Key Responsibilities

Prepare, weigh, and mix ingredients accurately according to production recipes and batch specifications.
Operate ovens, mixers, proofers, and other bakery equipment safely, efficiently, and in line with manufacturer instructions.
Produce baked goods consistently, ensuring the required quality, taste, appearance, and volume standards are met.
Monitor baking times, temperatures, and product quality throughout production, making adjustments where required.
Follow strict food safety and hygiene procedures, including the correct storage, handling, labelling, and rotation of ingredients.
Maintain a clean, organised, and hygienic workspace, including production areas, utensils, equipment, and storage facilities, in accordance with food safety regulations (HACCP, Regulation (EC) 852/2004 and 853/2004, and all other applicable statutory requirements).
Adhere to all health and safety procedures to prevent accidents, injuries, and equipment hazards.
Complete daily production tasks and accurately record production batches and operational information as required.
Work collaboratively with colleagues across different production lines, providing support where required to ensure efficient workflow and production targets are achieved.
Identify and report any issues relating to safety, equipment, ingredients, or production processes to the Line Manager.
Ensure the correct handling and segregation of waste, including food by-products, packaging, and recyclable materials, maintaining a safe and tidy working environment.
Undertake duties across different production lines as required, with responsibilities allocated according to individual skills, experience, training, and operational needs.
Carry out any other reasonable duties required to support the overall operation, cleanliness, efficiency, and productivity of the bakery.

Requirements

Previous experience in a bakery, food production, manufacturing, or similar environment is preferred but not essential; full training will be provided.
Understanding of basic food safety and hygiene standards.
Physically fit and capable of lifting, bending, and working in warm, cold, or humid environments.
Comfortable using bakery equipment, machinery, and tools.
Reliable, punctual, and able to work independently while also being a cooperative and supportive team member.
Flexible with working hours, including shifts, weekends, and evenings as required.
Strong attention to detail, with the ability to follow recipes, production instructions, and cleaning procedures accurately.
Awareness of workplace health and safety requirements and willingness to comply with training and procedures.
Good communication skills for reporting issues, collaborating with team members, and contributing to operational efficiency.
Commitment to producing high-quality products and maintaining the bakery's operational standards.
Willingness to undertake additional training in food safety, equipment operation, and bakery procedures, with opportunities to develop skills across multiple production lines.
