Full job description

Job Summary

D.Wise Ltd is seeking a reliable and detail-oriented Laboratory Assistant to support laboratory operations by preparing samples, maintaining equipment, recording data, and ensuring compliance with health and safety standards. The successful candidate will play a key role in supporting testing, research, and quality control activities while helping to maintain an efficient and organised laboratory environment.

Key Responsibilities

Prepare, label, and organise laboratory samples and materials.
Assist with routine laboratory testing and analysis under supervision.
Accurately record, maintain, and update laboratory data and documentation.
Clean, sterilise, and maintain laboratory equipment, instruments, and work areas.
Monitor laboratory stock levels and assist with ordering supplies and consumables.
Follow standard operating procedures (SOPs) and quality management processes.
Ensure compliance with health, safety, and environmental regulations.
Assist in the calibration and routine maintenance of laboratory equipment.
Support quality control activities and investigations as required.
Dispose of laboratory waste safely and in accordance with company procedures.
Work collaboratively with laboratory technicians and management.
Participate in training and continuous improvement activities.

Skills and Experience

Essential

Good organisational skills and attention to detail.
Ability to accurately record and manage data.
Strong communication and teamwork skills.
Ability to follow written instructions and standard operating procedures.
Competent in Microsoft Office applications, particularly Excel and Word.

Desirable

Previous experience working in a laboratory environment.
Knowledge of quality management systems.
Experience using laboratory instruments and equipment.
Understanding of Good Laboratory Practice (GLP).

Qualifications

GCSEs (or equivalent), including Maths, English, and Science.
Relevant laboratory, scientific, or technical qualification preferred but not essential.
Additional laboratory or health and safety training would be advantageous.
