Full job description

Overview
We are seeking a local, dedicated and enthusiastic Shop Assistant to join our small team. The ideal local candidate will play a vital role in ensuring the smooth operation of our shop, providing excellent customer service and maintaining an organised and welcoming environment. This position is perfect for individuals who enjoy working in a dynamic setting, have a passion for assisting customers and enjoy good food. Applicants need to be physically fit in order to cope with occasional heavy lifting of up to 25kg.

Responsibilities

Greet customers warmly and assist them with their inquiries.
Maintain an organised and tidy shop floor, ensuring products are displayed attractively.
Process sales transactions accurately and efficiently.
Restock shelves and manage inventory levels to ensure product availability.
Restocking includes preparing fresh vegetables and requires the use of knives
Assist in the preparation of promotional displays and marketing materials.
Handle customer complaints or concerns with professionalism and care.
Collaborate with team members to achieve sales targets and enhance customer satisfaction.
Ensure compliance with health and safety regulations within the shop environment.
Physically fit and able to lift 25kg (Heavy sacks of potatoes for example)

Qualifications

Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to engage effectively with customers.
Previous experience in retail or customer service is an advantage but not essential.
Strong organisational skills with attention to detail.
Ability to work well in a team as well as independently.
A positive attitude and a willingness to learn new skills.

This is a weekday only role, however we do occasionally require cover during the weekend. A typical working day is 8am to 6pm. We currently need to fulfil 25 hours per week. Set working days are Tuesday, Wednesday & Friday with potential for overtime.

Applicants are required to live local to Glemsford. Drivers license preferable as there is no reliable public transport. People applying who live miles away in areas such as Chelmsford, Colchester & Ipswich will automatically be rejected.
