Full job description

You will provide safe and consistent person-centred support in a variety of settings, supporting children and young people with complex needs. Our staff work in children’s homes and family homes. As a Support Worker you will build trusting relationships by promoting independence, life skills, emotional well-being and regulation, and positive outcomes for young people.

Working Hours
Your usual working hours will be 12 hours shifts per week to include days, nights and sleep in shifts. There is an expectation that you will complete a minimum of 15 shifts per month on a 4 on 4 off rotation to include weekdays, weekends, bank holidays and Christmas.

Key Responsibilities

Work closely with young people in a variety of settings, ensuring their wellbeing, safety, and development at all times.
Provide emotional, social, and practical support tailored to each young person’s needs.
Act as a positive role model, demonstrating healthy boundaries, empathy, and consistency.
Support young people who may have experienced trauma, instability, or challenging backgrounds, offering a nurturing and understanding environment.
Build strong, trusting relationships based on respect, empathy, and reliability.
Encourage young people to express themselves positively and develop confidence in their identity.
Assist with daily routines, including personal care (where required), meal preparation, household tasks, and medication management.
Promote engagement in education, training, and extra curricular activities.
Support young people to develop life skills such as budgeting, cooking, self care, and community participation.

Safeguarding & Professional Practice

Maintain a safe, supportive environment in line with safeguarding legislation and Hera Care’s policies.
Recognise and respond appropriately to risks, concerns, or incidents.
Support with any other administrative duties where required in order to meet the needs of the service and young people
Work collaboratively with colleagues, managers, families, and external professionals to ensure holistic support.

Teamwork & Communication

Communicate clearly and respectfully with young people, colleagues, and professionals.
Participate in team meetings, reflective practice sessions, and ongoing training.
Work effectively and contribute to a positive team culture where compassion, professionalism, and accountability are central.

Essential

High levels of patience, empathy, and emotional resilience.
Ability to remain calm, adaptable, and solution‑focused in challenging situations.
Strong communication and active listening skills.
Ability to work collaboratively within a team and follow guidance from senior staff.
Commitment to safeguarding and child‑centred practice.
Willingness to support personal care, household tasks, and daily routines.
Hold or be working towards or willing to work towards Level 3 Diploma in Residential Childcare.
Must be 22 years old or above (to meet with children’s regulations).
Hold a full UK driving licence together with the correct insurance and access to you own vehicle.
Willingness to travel to a variety of placements across the UK
Flexibility to work shifts, including evenings, weekends, sleep-in and public holidays
Have an enhanced DBS check or be willing to obtain one.
Have a right to work in the U.K.

Desirable

Experience working with young people with complex needs or trauma backgrounds.
Knowledge of issues affecting complex young people (e.g., trauma, attachment, CSE, missing episodes).
Understanding of safeguarding, child protection, and risk assessment.
