Stock Planning Coordinator

£15.00 - £16.00 per hour (depending on experience and ability)

About us:

Horner Shearing is a family-run business based in the village of West Bradford, a short drive from Clitheroe. Established in 1989, we have grown from a husband-and-wife partnership into a successful international business, while remaining firmly rooted in the agricultural community.

Our story began when founders Willie and Mary Horner designed and sold the ground-breaking Longhorn 12v shearing machine, which has since become iconic among professional shearers and farmers around the world.

Still managed by founder Willie and his son Will, we are proud to be a traditional, local, family business. We value strong working relationships with our customers, many of whom have been with us for years.

From our site in West Bradford, we cover the full process from the manufacture and fabrication of our world-renowned sheep shearing products through to sales, servicing, repairs and product innovation.

We are now looking for a Stock Planning Coordinator to join our team. This role would suit someone who is highly organised, comfortable working with stock information and able to coordinate practical work across several departments.

The role:

This role sits between stock control and production coordination. You will monitor levels of finished products, components and product variants, then recommend what should be printed, packaged or assembled next and in what quantities. You will help make sure we do not produce too much of one variant while another runs short, and you will create straightforward work orders for printing, packaging and selected assembly work.

You will work closely with our assembly supervisor, production manager and the office manager. This is a coordination role rather than a direct line-management role. The initial focus will be stock planning and simpler, repeatable work orders, with scope to take on broader production planning responsibilities over time depending on capability, performance and the needs of the business.

Your duties will include the following:

Monitoring stock levels across finished products, components, printed items, packaging and product variants
Reviewing current stock, sales demand, usage patterns, outstanding orders and work already in progress
Deciding or recommending suitable quantities of shearing combs and other products to print and package
Creating and issuing clear work orders for printing, packaging and straightforward assembly processes
Coordinating priorities with the assembly supervisor and production manager
Following work orders through to completion and updating priorities when stock requirements change
Keeping stock, work-order and planning information accurate on our in-house systems and spreadsheets
Identifying potential shortages, excess stock, slow-moving variants and unnecessary duplicate work
Coordinating stocktakes and ensuring stock numbers are correct
Investigating stock discrepancies and helping to correct records or process issues
Coordination of quality checks on clothing
Communicating changes and priorities clearly to the people completing the work
Maintaining accurate records of decisions, quantities, outstanding work and completed work
Helping to improve stock-control, work-order and production-coordination processes
Supporting wider production-planning tasks as your knowledge and capability develop
Other varied duties as needed

Candidates must have:

Excellent attention to detail and the ability to maintain accurate stock and work-order information
Good numeracy and confidence comparing quantities, variants, demand and available stock
Strong organisation skills and the ability to manage several priorities at the same time
Clear verbal and written communication skills
The confidence to make sensible day-to-day decisions and ask for guidance when a decision is more complex
Confidence using computers, spreadsheets and a willingness to learn our in-house systems
The ability to work independently while cooperating closely with supervisors and production staff
A reliable, practical and can-do attitude with flexibility to help where needed

Ideally candidates will:

Have previous experience in stock control, inventory, production administration, materials planning or a similar role
Have experience creating work orders, job sheets, picking instructions or other production documentation
Have worked in a manufacturing, engineering, warehouse, assembly or practical production environment
Be confident using spreadsheets to organise information and compare stock against demand
Understand how components, packaging and finished-product variants relate to one another

Job type: Full Time

Hours: 47.5 paid hours per week. Monday to Friday, 7am to 5pm, with a 30-minute unpaid lunch break.

Hourly Rate: £15.00 - £16.00 per hour, depending on experience and ability.

Role development:

The role will initially focus on stock planning and straightforward printing, packaging and assembly work orders. There may be an opportunity to progress into wider production-planning responsibilities in the future, but this will depend on the individual reaching the required standard and on the future needs of the business.
