Assistant Chef

Location: Staffordshire Specialist Care Centre

Please note: We are not currently able to offer sponsorship for this position. Applicants must already be residing in the UK to be considered.

About the Role

Staffordshire Specialist Care Centre is looking for an experienced and dedicated Assistant Chef to join our catering team.

You will play an important role in providing nutritious, varied and high-quality meals for our residents, supporting their individual dietary needs and overall wellbeing. You will also help ensure the smooth day-to-day running of the kitchen while maintaining high standards of food safety, hygiene and cleanliness.

Key Responsibilities

Plan and prepare a varied range of nutritious, well-balanced and appealing meals that meet residents' individual dietary requirements.
Support the effective running of the kitchen and ensure appropriate staffing levels are maintained.
Supervise and support kitchen staff, ensuring food is handled and stored safely and all relevant health and safety procedures are followed.
Ensure kitchen equipment, cleaning products and materials are used safely and in accordance with COSHH requirements.
Support kitchen staff with regular supervision and development.
Assist with the induction and training of new members of the kitchen team.
Carry out regular stock checks and order catering supplies from approved suppliers within agreed budgets.
Maintain effective cleaning schedules and ensure high standards of kitchen cleanliness are maintained.
Ensure food and storage temperatures are checked and recorded in line with food safety requirements.
Work closely with the wider team to ensure residents receive a high-quality catering service.

These duties are not exhaustive, and you may be required to undertake other responsibilities that are appropriate to your role, skills and experience.

Skills, Knowledge & Experience

The successful candidate will ideally have:

NVQ Level 2 in Catering or equivalent experience.
Good knowledge of food hygiene and food safety regulations.
Experience working in a professional kitchen environment.
Knowledge of safe kitchen practices and the correct use of kitchen equipment.
Understanding of COSHH and Health & Safety requirements.
Good organisational and communication skills.
A genuine interest in providing high-quality meals and supporting the wellbeing of residents.
The ability to work effectively as part of a team and take responsibility for maintaining high standards.
