Head Chef at Care Home

Nursing and Residential Home, Alfreton, Derbyshire£13.81-£14.31 p/h | Nursing and Residential Home – Good CQC

Milford Care are looking for a head chef to join and lead our fantastic, hard-working team at one of our care homes, The Meadows, Alfreton. All applicants must have a Food Safety Level 2 certificate and experience working within a care environment would be desired, but not a necessity.

The Meadows has achieved the Derbyshire Dementia Standards Award, which recognises the philosophy of the home to deliver “person-centred” care, delivered by well-trained and supported staff with the aim of ‘bringing out the best in everybody’. The Meadows also hold The Derbyshire Dignity Campaign Award and The Derbyshire End of Life Quality Award, which in order to achieve, it had to be demonstrated that excellent End of life Care was delivered in a number of ways.

Details of this head chef position and what the home is offering:

· Permanent contract, working over a 7 day rota, we can offer flexibility on the amount of hours per week – minimum 3 days per week.

· £13.81-£14.31 p/h

Purpose of Position

· To prepare and cook a balanced, nutritious diet within a controlled hygienic environment.

· To control systems of food allocation to minimise wastage.

· To operate the kitchen and supervise the kitchen team.

· To ensure that the Kitchen areas are cleaned and maintained to a high standard.

· To ensure that all kitchen staff actively contribute to the quality of nutrition in the home.

· To order and maintain stock whilst keeping the cost of cooking within guidelines set by the Management.

Responsibilities

· To maintain a balance diet and varied menus.

· To be aware of the Residents dietary needs and preferences.

· To discuss the with Nurse in charge special dietary needs and incorporate these into the daily menus.

· To ensure that all kitchen staff are trained within the requirements of current legislation.

· To ensure that all kitchen staff are issued with the correct uniform and that this is maintained in good repair and in a clean hygienic condition.

· To ensure that the cleaning schedules issued by the management are strictly adhered to.

· To ensure that all kitchen areas are left in clean hygienic state at the end of each shift.

· To be responsible for checking the hours worked by the Kitchen staff.

· To maintain all kitchen equipment, as specified by the respective manufacturers and to report any malfunctions to the Nurse in charge / Proprietors.

· To take part in staff meetings when necessary.

· To undergo further training or updating as required.

· To inform and teach other kitchen staff of any updating in legislation as and when necessary.

· To maintain confidentiality regarding all aspects of care and management of the home.

· To perform any other such reasonable duties as may be required.

· You may have some experience in a UK nursing home setting, but it is not essential.

· You will be compassionate and respectful and able to build relationships with colleagues
