Full job description

Working at The Alnwick Garden means joining one of the North East’s most distinctive and ambitious visitor attractions. We are now seeking an experienced and motivated Food & Beverage Manager to lead our retail catering operation, managing front of house in both our Pavilion Cafe and Bakery. You will play a key role in delivering exceptional experiences for our visitors. This is a pivotal middle‑management role, responsible for ensuring our food and beverage offer reflects the quality, creativity, and values of the Garden.

About the Role

As Food & Beverage Manager, you will oversee the day‑to‑day running of two F&B outlets, ensuring high standards of service, presentation and operational efficiency. You will lead and develop a dedicated team, manage budgets and performance targets, and work closely with colleagues across the organisation to support events, seasonal programming and commercial growth.

You will be expected to bring a hands‑on, solutions‑focused approach, balancing operational delivery with forward planning. The role offers the opportunity to shape the future of our F&B offer as we continue to grow, innovate and enhance the visitor experience.

Key Responsibilities

Lead the front-of-house operational management of both retail catering outlets across the site
Deliver consistently high standards of customer service and food quality
Manage staffing, training, rotas and performance to build a strong, motivated team
Oversee stock control, ordering and cost management
Ensure compliance with all food safety, health and hygiene regulations
Support the development of menus and seasonal offers
Work collaboratively with the wider garden teams
Contribute to commercial planning, budgeting and performance reporting
Drive continuous improvement in efficiency, sustainability, and visitor satisfaction

Proven experience in managing multi‑site or high‑volume F&B operations
Strong leadership skills with the ability to motivate and develop teams
Excellent organisational and problem‑solving abilities
A commitment to delivering outstanding customer service
Confidence in managing budgets, margins and operational KPIs
A proactive, collaborative working style
