Café Chef / Head Cook – Shanahans Café (Aston, Birmingham)

Shanahans is a busy and welcoming café based in Aston, Birmingham, known for delivering exceptional customer service and high-quality food. Our menu focuses on freshly prepared breakfasts, lunches, sandwiches, and light meals, with a strong emphasis on flavour, presentation, and quality ingredients.

We are currently looking for an experienced Café Chef / Head Cook to join our kitchen team. This is an excellent opportunity for someone who is passionate about food, thrives in a fast-paced environment, and is eager to contribute to the growth of the business.

Role Overview

As a key member of the kitchen, you will be responsible for preparing and presenting a wide variety of breakfast and lunch dishes to a consistently high standard. You will play an important role in the smooth day-to-day running of the kitchen, ensuring quality, efficiency, and cleanliness at all times.

Key Responsibilities

Prepare and cook breakfast and lunch dishes to a high standard
Ensure excellent presentation and attention to detail on every plate
Manage multiple orders efficiently during busy service periods
Complete daily food preparation and ensure kitchen readiness
Follow all food safety, hygiene, and allergen procedures
Assist with stock control, rotation, ordering, and deliveries
Maintain accurate kitchen records and daily checklists
Keep the kitchen clean, organised, and fully compliant
Work closely with colleagues and management to ensure smooth service
Contribute ideas for menu improvements and seasonal specials

Requirements

Previous experience in a professional kitchen
Strong understanding of food hygiene, safety, and allergen management
Knowledge of stock control and kitchen organisation
Ability to work efficiently under pressure
Good communication and teamwork skills
Excellent organisation and attention to detail
Reliable, punctual, and hardworking
Ability to work independently when required

Job Details

Hours: 40 hours per week
Contract: Full-time, permanent
Pay: £14–£15 per hour
Weekend availability required
