Bookkeeper

Location: Reigate, Surrey
Job Type: Part-time | Permanent
Salary: £18.00 per hour (depending on experience)

We are a friendly and growing electrical contracting company looking for an experienced Bookkeeper to join our team. This is an excellent opportunity for someone who enjoys taking ownership of the day-to-day finances of a small business and wants to play a key role in supporting our continued growth.

Working closely with the directors, you will ensure our financial records are accurate, up to date and compliant, while helping to keep the business running efficiently.

The Role

As our Bookkeeper, you will be responsible for managing the company's day-to-day bookkeeping using Xero, maintaining accurate financial records, and supporting the smooth operation of our finance function.

Key Responsibilities

Maintain accurate financial records using Xero.
Process sales invoices, supplier invoices and credit notes.
Manage the purchase and sales ledgers.
Reconcile bank accounts and company credit cards.
Process supplier payments and monitor cash flow.
Chase outstanding customer payments where required.
Prepare and submit VAT returns.
Process payroll and pension contributions (if experienced).
Record employee expenses and company transactions.
Maintain organised digital financial records and supporting documentation.
Produce monthly financial reports for the directors.
Liaise with our external accountant to support month-end and year-end accounts.
Assist with budgeting and financial administration as the business grows.

About You

We're looking for someone who is:

Experienced in bookkeeping and confident using Xero.
Highly organised with excellent attention to detail.
Able to work independently and manage multiple priorities.
Trustworthy and professional when handling confidential financial information.
A strong communicator who enjoys working in a small, supportive team.

Essential Skills & Experience

Proven bookkeeping experience.
Strong working knowledge of Xero.
Good understanding of bookkeeping principles, VAT and bank reconciliations.
Excellent Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Office skills.
High level of accuracy and attention to detail.
Strong organisational and time management skills.

Desirable but not essential

Payroll experience.
Knowledge of the Construction Industry Scheme (CIS).
Experience working within the construction or electrical sector.
AAT qualification or equivalent.
