Driver/Operative

About the Role

We are recruiting a Driver/Operative to support the delivery of high-quality street cleansing services across Newport. This is a hands-on operational role suited to someone who enjoys working outdoors, takes pride in maintaining clean public spaces, and is committed to delivering a safe, reliable, and professional service.

What You'll Be Doing

Carrying out street cleansing duties in line with contractual standards and daily route schedules
Driving Council vehicles when required, following all driver policies and procedures
Completing cleansing and driving duties as directed by supervisors and management
Following all health and safety procedures at all times
Wearing the required uniform and Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)
Reporting accidents, incidents, defects, and safety concerns promptly
Attending mandatory training as required
Providing support and guidance to Cleansing Operatives when working as part of a team
Delivering a professional service and maintaining positive interactions with colleagues and members of the public
Working outdoors in varying weather conditions
Supporting other related duties appropriate to the role when required

What We're Looking For

Essential:

Full, valid UK Driving Licence
Right to work in the UK
Good knowledge of the Newport area
Understanding of working within a public sector environment
Ability to work independently and as part of a team
Good customer service and communication skills
Ability to prioritise work and meet deadlines
Positive attitude with a willingness to learn and develop new skills
Physically fit and able to carry out regular walking, lifting, bending, and carrying duties
Willingness to work outdoors in all weather conditions
Availability to work the required shift pattern, including weekends and Bank Holidays
Commitment to health and safety and equal opportunities

Desirable:

Previous experience in refuse collection or street cleansing services
Supervisory experience or experience leading a small team
