Residential Children's Home Support Worker (Full-Time)

Make a Difference Every Day

We are looking for experienced, compassionate, and dedicated Residential Children's Home Support Workers to join our therapeutic residential children's home on a full-time basis.

You will support young women (gender-inclusive) aged 8–18 with autism and complex emotional needs. Some of the young people may present with behaviours that challenge, including self-harm and suicidal ideation. Our aim is to provide a safe, nurturing, and therapeutic environment where every young person feels valued, develops resilience, and gains the skills needed to thrive.

This role can be challenging, but it is also incredibly rewarding as you witness the positive progress and personal growth of the young people in your care.

About You

You are someone who:

Is empathetic, caring, understanding and emotionally resilient.
Remains calm and professional under pressure.
Has a therapeutic and child-centred approach.
Understands safeguarding responsibilities and acts appropriately to protect children and young people.
Is committed to helping young people build confidence, independence, and positive futures.
You must be computer literate and be used to completing daily logs, incident reports, and attending meetings.

Key Responsibilities

Provide high-quality day-to-day care and emotional support.
Build positive, trusting, and therapeutic relationships with young people.
Support with daily living activities, including:
Shopping
Cooking and meal preparation
Laundry and household tasks
Leisure and community activities
Attending appointments
Developing independent living skills
Maintain accurate daily records, incident reports, and care documentation.
Attend team meetings and contribute to care planning.
Follow safeguarding procedures, risk management plans, and therapeutic approaches.
Respond calmly, safely, and professionally to challenging behaviours.

Essential Requirements

Applicants must have at least one year's experience working with children and young people in one or more of the following settings:

Residential Children's Home
Youth Work
CAMHS Tier 4
Secure Unit
Youth Offending Team (YOT)
Substance Misuse Services
Alternative Provision (formerly known as PRUs)

You will also have:

A good understanding of safeguarding legislation and best practice.
Strong written and IT skills, with experience completing daily logs, incident reports, and care records.
Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
A compassionate, patient, resilient, and adaptable approach.
A genuine commitment to improving outcomes for vulnerable children and young people.

Desirable

MAPA or PMVA training.
Experience supporting children and young people with autism, trauma, mental health needs, or behaviours that challenge.
