Full job description

Job Summary
We are seeking a compassionate, reliable and dedicated Domiciliary Care Assistant to join our care team. The successful candidate will provide high-quality care and support to individuals living in their own homes, helping them to remain safe, independent, comfortable and well-supported in their daily lives. This role involves delivering person-centred care in line with individual care plans, promoting dignity and choice, and supporting clients with daily routines, personal care, medication prompts, meal preparation, companionship and community access where required.

Responsibilities
Provide care and support to clients in their own homes in accordance with their personalised care plans.

Assist clients with personal care tasks, including washing, bathing, dressing, grooming, toileting and continence support.

Support clients with mobility, moving and handling, transfers and safe use of equipment where required.

Assist with daily living tasks such as meal preparation, light domestic duties, laundry, shopping and maintaining a safe home environment.

Prompt or assist with medication in line with the care plan, company policy and relevant training.

Monitor clients’ health, wellbeing, mood, behaviour and general condition, reporting any concerns or changes promptly to the office, supervisor or relevant healthcare professional.

Maintain accurate and timely records of all care delivered, including visit notes, medication records and any concerns, using paper-based or electronic care systems.

Promote clients’ independence, dignity, privacy, choice and rights at all times.

Provide companionship and emotional support, helping to reduce loneliness and promote social wellbeing.

Support clients to attend appointments, access the community or take part in activities where this forms part of their care plan.

Communicate professionally and respectfully with clients, relatives, colleagues, healthcare professionals and the wider care team.

Follow safeguarding procedures and report any concerns relating to abuse, neglect, harm or poor practice.

Adhere to infection prevention and control, health and safety, confidentiality, GDPR and moving and handling requirements.

Work flexibly across agreed shifts, including mornings, evenings, weekends and bank holidays where required.

Travel between clients’ homes in the agreed geographical area.

Experience and Skills
Previous experience in domiciliary care, home care, residential care or supported living is desirable but not essential, as full training will be provided for suitable candidates.

A caring, respectful and compassionate approach to supporting people in their own homes.

Good communication skills in English, both verbal and written.

Ability to follow care plans, instructions and company policies accurately.

Basic IT skills to complete electronic care notes, update records and use mobile care planning systems.

Reliable, punctual and able to work independently while knowing when to seek guidance or escalate concerns.

Ability to maintain professional boundaries and respect confidentiality.

Willingness to undertake training, including safeguarding, medication, moving and handling, infection control, first aid and person-centred care.

Driving licence and access to a vehicle is desirable and may be essential for some domiciliary care routes, depending on location and travel requirements.
