Self-Employed CIS Subcontract Opportunity

Based near Birmingham B26 / Sheldon

Job description

Junior / improver level. £125 per day starting rate. CIS subcontract. UK-wide project work.

We’re looking for a reliable junior data cabling subcontractor to assist on structured cabling projects across the UK.

This may suit someone with data cabling experience, someone from an electrical, fire & security, telecoms or similar practical background, or someone looking to get into a trade-based role with the right attitude and aptitude.

The environments change. The standards don’t.

One project might involve thousands of metres of cable and hundreds of terminations. The next could be a handful of data outlets in a doctor’s surgery.

Over the course of a year you might work in hospitals, schools, care homes, warehouses, offices, data centres, prisons and other live environments. One week you could be 20m up from a cherry picker. The next could be in an undercroft.

This is for someone who wants regular project opportunities, proper site experience and a route into a skilled trade.

The aim is simple: become useful, build capability and develop into someone trusted on real projects.

You’ll gain experience across copper, fibre, containment, WiFi infrastructure, testing, fault finding and live building environments.

As your capability, responsibility and agreed scope of work develop, your rate will be reviewed.

What you’ll be doing

Pulling and installing data cabling.
Terminating and testing installations.
Assisting with fibre, WiFi and network infrastructure.
Assisting with tray, basket, trunking and other containment.
Working in live environments including care homes, schools, hospitals and commercial sites.
Keeping work areas clean, organised and safe.
Building experience through hands-on site work.

Requirements

We’re looking for someone reliable, practical and willing to learn. You’ll need to get involved, ask questions and take pride in doing a good job.

Essential

Practical aptitude and willingness to learn.
Comfortable using basic hand tools.
Reliable and punctual.
Willing to travel across the UK and stay away when required.
Able to attend early site starts, often around 7am, with travel starting earlier depending on location.
Able to get reliably to Sheldon / Birmingham or directly to site when required.
Right to work in the UK.
UTR number and CIS registration, or willing to register.
Own PPE and basic hand tools.

Advantageous

Data cabling or structured cabling experience.
Electrical, telecoms, fire & security or similar site experience.
Confident terminating copper cabling.
Full UK driving licence and access to transport.

Site requirements

Working across different client sites means certain cards, checks and certificates are required.

Required before attending site:

ECS or CSCS card.
Manual Handling.
Working at Height.
Ladder Safety.
Asbestos Awareness.

May be required depending on project:

IPAF.
PASMA.
DBS check for schools, care homes and other sensitive environments.

You will be responsible for keeping your own site certificates in date.

The setup

This is a self-employed CIS subcontract opportunity, with work offered on a project-by-project basis.

Starting rate is £125 per day, with monthly payment terms for agreed work completed. Rate is reviewed as capability, responsibility and agreed scope of work develop.

This work involves early starts, travel, live sites and staying away. Site days are based around completing a full working day on site. Travel time varies depending on project location, and some days may be longer due to travel, site access times or project requirements.

Days, nights, weekends and staying away may be required depending on the project.
