Pastry Chef

Proto Artisan Bakery is looking for a Pastry Chef to join its dynamic, award winning, team.

Established in 2020 in Ware, Hertfordshire, our bakery in St Albans is looking for a weekend Pastry Chef to join the team.

Our team are passionate about sourdough with no nasties. We specialise in fresh sourdough and pastries, baked daily on site in our open kitchens.

We will never get bored of saying “eat real bread” - we are looking for a new team member who believes the same.

Role & responsibilities

The ideal candidate will be responsible for:

Laminating croissant dough
Shaping pastries
Testing new ideas and products
Supporting bakery production when needed

Applicants must have at least 2 year's experience working in a similar position. If you have pastry making and baking experience, are passionate about food, and always want to learn, we would love to show you our methods.

Further details:

- Ensure quality control and consistency in all baked goods produced.

- Maintain cleanliness and compliance with health and safety regulations in the bakery area.

- Collaborate with the management team to develop new products and seasonal offerings.

- Engage with customers, offering recommendations and sharing knowledge about our pastries, baking processes and offerings.

Requirements for the role

Experience as of baking pastries and desserts ideally in a reputable establishment or similar role.
Knowledge of pastry techniques, including baking, cake decoration, chocolate work and sugar craft
Ability to work independently and create new recipes from your own individual ideas.

- Creative thinking and flair, with attention to detail in crafting artisanal and visually appealing products.

- Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment while maintaining composure and professionalism.

- A great team player

- Strong working knowledge of health and safety regulations and food hygiene standards.

- Excellent time management skills and organised

- Passion for quality and sustainability.

- Strong attention to detail for food preparation and presentation.

Salary, working pattern and benefits

Salary - from £31k - £34k depending on experience

Full-time - Permanent
7am starts - No night shifts
